Joy Division Would Not Have Become World Superstars If Curtis Hadn’t Killed Himself

When Ian Curtis hung himself on May 18th 1980, he ended the band whilst they were at their peak. With Love Will Tear Us Apart they had created perhaps their only memorable song. Up until this point they hadn’t managed to create anything listenable, let alone great.
If Joy Division had continued on then they’d have just pumped out more awful Goth Rock. They’d have been like an even less talented ‘The Cure’.
Let’s face it Ian Curtis’s voice was annoying, not inspiring and the man could not hold a fucking note. All of the singing lessons in the world would not have made him passable as a true rock singer.
Yet deluded Joy Division fans believe that this was only the beginning of the Joy Division saga. World domination would have followed on the American tour that never was. Baying fans would have barked ‘Colony’ back at Curtis, staring at him with all the reverence of Jesus the Baby in the arms of Mary.
Face it, Ian Curtis killed himself because he realized he’d reached his peak and decided to call it quits before the music press called him out on his lack of talent.
That’s the truth of the matter.

I appreciate that Joy Division’s main subject matter and style might not be to everybody’s liking. Though for somebody that claims to ‘truly’ think that they are over-rated, you seem to have set aside a ridiculous amount of your time compiling this nonsensical blog, one which lacks any line of convincing argument. Instead you occasionally and half heartedly try to draw ignorant parallels between this band and ‘an even less talented The Cure’. Is this aimed at Joy Division fans, the deceased Curtis (mocking his epilepsy was in extremely bad taste), or the bands musical repertoire? I’m not sure you know yourself, as this reads as a cynical and ill-researched jibe, one that strives to antagonize people that hold their music in high esteem. That’s about it really and it’ll be interesting to see if you post this.
For all the time this person has invested in a band they dont like, i would have to say that this is just a cry for help from a person who is definitely a closet Joy Division fan. Dont worry you are not alone! lol oh yeah and if you want a truly bad band to mock or slag pick any of the disposable emo bands. take care all and remember — Joy Division were just as important for their era as Nirvana was for theirs — if they were a bad band none of us would have heard of them! I have often wondered what would have happened had Ian Curtis lived on. The thing is, though, he didn’t! What you say may be right, but the objective reality is that JD introduced something new to popular culture (partly aided by IC’s suicide, admittedly), a nihilist sensibility beyond the mindless hedonism of all pre-existing popular music that had a massive influence much on subsequent Anglo-American popular music. If it was just accidental, who cares? The point is, that is what happened.
Yeah whoever made this website is a fucking idiot. First of all they were one of the most creative/influential bands of their time and his voice although not traditional was original and conveyed all the pain in his life and if your life has been so perfect that you cannot understand that then i don’t know why you even bother listening to them.
